To those of us providing merchant services, the answer seems obvious. But then, we know that not all loyalty programs are capable of producing the desired results of acquiring new customers and keeping them coming back.

To help merchants think about getting the most out of a loyalty program, they should ask themselves how well they are able to:

• Identify and target their best customers?
• Interact personally with their customers?
• Market their business to consumers?
• Approach the right customers with the right product mix?
• Determine if their marketing campaigns are bringing the right customers through the door?

Consumers today are greatly influencing buying behavior by sharing their experiences in real time. They use technology extensively for most of their daily activities, and seek to have a direct relationship with the seller.

A mobile and social based loyalty program could make THE difference. It helps merchants:

1. Make customers feel important and understood
2. Retain customers with repeat purchases
3. Boost business by building long term relationships with customers
4. Promote the best offers to the best customers in a manner that they prefer the most
5. Compete with small and big box stores all in the same space with differentiated offerings
